vrede en verzoening
Nou, kijk dan zelf even naar de tekst die Shani in augustus 2024 (toen was de massamoord dus al tien maanden aan de gang) schreef en oordeel zelf of het een krachtige boodschap is van hoop op vrede en verzoening tussen Palestijnen en Israeli’s. De Standaard publiceerde een Nederlandse vertaling onder de enigszins cynische kop ‘Vrede moet en zal er zijn’ – terwijl het toch al lang duidelijk is dat er voor de Israëlische machthebbers enkel vrede kan zijn als er geen Palestijnen overblijven. Dat kan je dan ook vrede noemen.

De uitvoerders en hun instrumenten omvatten verschillende koren, de misthoorns van de hele Kaspische vloot, artillerie- en infanterie-eenheden met hun kanonnen en machinegeweren, watervliegtuigen en alle fabriekssirenes in de stad. De legende gaat dat, voor de dode vrouw aan haar voeten werd opgehangen, een priester een riem om haar kleding draaide, zodat haar rok niet over haar gezicht viel – en het opgewonden publiek niet te zien kreeg wat zich onder de rok bevond. Vijanden ondersteboven hangen is een oud ritueel van vernedering. De apostelen Petrus en Philippus zouden met het hoofd naar beneden zijn gekruisigd; Paulus, die Romeins staatsburger was, werd met het zwaard onthoofd. Wanneer het lichaam dat reeds gestorven is op zijn kop staat (hangt), is men doder dan dood, schrijft Dick Raaijmakers. De vrouw is Clara Petacci, en naast haar hangen aan de balken van een benzinestation op de Piazzale Loreto in Milaan haar geliefde, Benito Mussolini, en enkele van de fascistische getrouwen die samen met hen naar Zwitserland of Oostenrijk trachtten te vluchten. Op 27 april 1945 hielden Italiaanse partizanen hen aan; de volgende dag schoten zij hen dood. De lichamen werden naar Milaan gevoerd om tentoongesteld te worden. Op sommige foto’s blijkt dat er minstens zeven lijken aan de balken van het benzinestation hangen, en dat er ook op de grond nog verschillende verminkte lichamen liggen. Dit was, zou je kunnen zeggen, de val van Mussolini.
apocalypse, how?
My point is: it is vain to talk about general collapse or effondrement or apocalypse if the foundation of your conceptions is dubious, and secondly, if you nevertheless want to start suggesting responses, you’d better propose approaches that fit situations and urgencies that already today need sustainable remedies. (…) The fear for a threatening collapse of civilisation is nothing new in Western culture. From the first millennium, past the year 2000, there has been the continuously postponed apocalypse of Jehova’s Witnesses, the atomic bomb, the population bomb, Star Wars, the irresistible invasion of Europe and North America by all the deplorables of the planet and with it the loss of national identity … up to the threat of artificial intelligence and the possibility of transhumanism (of a technological post-humanity, the fusion of wo/man and machine) potentially leading to the end of humanity. (Of course I would not be that cynical as to state that much of the fear mongering about an apocalypse is enhanced by those who are thinking about commercializing solutions for the problems they are invoking.)

Des doctrines eschatologiques, il y en a de tous les temps – le plus souvent de caractère théologique. Mais s’il y a un texte qui a marqué l’imaginaire occidental du collapse final, c’est-à-dire de l’apocalypse, c’est bien l’Apocalypse de Jean (le Livre de la révélation).
musique et chaos
La musique, peut-elle conjurer le chaos ? En tout cas, elle peut repousser le chaos. Si l’on ne considère la musique que comme la combinaison de rythmes et de mélodies, c’est clair. Mais même dans ses approches à première vue les plus chaotiques, comme l’indéterminisme de Cage, le free jazz ou les chants guerriers des peuples indiens des Saulteaux, il y toujours cette organisation de hauteur, timbre, volume et durée qui produit ce qu’on appelle musique.
